Kfar IDUD

A Home for Special People

COMMITTIE OF FRIENDS OF IDUD

Kfar Idud was established in 1988 as a non profit organization by a group of parents who were searching for a safe permanent home for their children, a place where they would be provided with security and an excellent quality of life.

There are 168 apartments owned by the residents' families.  The land surrounding the apartments and the public buildings belong to the Committee of Friends organization.

Each family is invited to become a member of the Committee upon purchasing a flat.  The Committee manages Kfar Idud under the supervision of the Rehabilitation Department of the Ministry of Welfare which co-finances daily management and provides professional guidance

A HOME FOR YOUR OWN

Kfar Idud is a unique housing complex designed for adults with varying learning disabilities, functional and adjustment problems due to organic brain damage.

The residents of this beautiful village live in privately owned individual flats while personally attended to twenty-four hours a day by a well trained staff.  Life in our village encourages each resident to maximize his/her functional capabilities while enjoying the knowledge that he/she has a protected, secure home for life and that his/her personal liberty and privacy is respected

OUR COMMUNITY

Kfar Idud is home to 150 adults between the ages of 21 to 60. The lawns and public areas of the village are full of activity most of the day and in the evenings. The apartments are located in three story buildings surrounded by gardens allowing for spontaneous interactions between the residents. The limited number of residents and the heterogeneity of ages and capabilities form a natural society. Here everyone feels free to choose his/her own friends and partners. The village is small enough to prevent the residents from feeling alienated, but large enough to accommodate those who prefer privacy

EACH INDIVIDUAL- A WORLD ENTIRE

Every resident of Kfar Idud has his/her unique limitations and disabilities including cognitive, motor and orientation problems, neurological dysfunction or chronic illnesses. As a result, the residents exhibit a wide range of capabilities which influence their ability to perform independently in all aspects of daily life.

A personal program is designed for each resident according to his/her abilities to fulfill his/her potential to become an active member of society inside the village and out

COMMUNITY LIFE

Our policy is for residents to interact fully with surrounding communities.  Some of the means to fulfill this goal are outside work activities, use of public services, interacting with customers in the plant nursery, frequent family visits, work of volunteers within the village, social events, and performances in other institutions

ALL THE NEEDS

The village supplies all physical care: three meals daily, laundry, weekly house cleaning, and maintenance as needed.  Each resident is expected to keep his/her flat in good order as part of the rehabilitation program.

There is an infirmary on campus manned by nurses and regular reception hours by a physician.

The residents are encouraged to use services in the neighboring cities such as shops, swimming pool and entertainment.  In this way they have opportunities to be exposed and involved with the general public

WORK AS A WAY OF LIFE

Based on the perception that work is a mainstay of adult life, each resident is integrated into an employment program according to his/her cognitive and physical capabilities

WORK OFF CAMPUS

Those residents who are able, may work outside the village in sheltered or open workshops.
About half of the workers from Kfar Idud are involved in these "outside" jobs which are supervised by the village's professional team. These residents receive special training to prepare them for their employment

WORK ON CAMPUS

Employment Center: jobs in assembly, sorting, and packing

Village Services: jobs in maintenance, food preparation, gardening
.and laundry

Plant Nursery: these workers have the pleasure of working outdoors

and of coming into contact with visitors who come to buy plants and small gifts

A NON-STOP TEAM

Kfar Idud is manned twenty four hours a day by a team of well trained and committed professional managers, care givers, social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists and social guides plus volunteers and a maintenance team.

The challenges facing the staff are many and complex. Therefore, we provide them with constant support in the form of individual guidance, lectures, workshops, and professional enrichment

A NON-STOP VILLAGE

Kfar Idud offers enrichment activities in the afternoon and evening.

Not only do these activities help to develop skills, they also encourage social interaction and provide a release from tension and pressure.

Activities include: acting group, singing group, music appreciation, art, handicrafts, animal husbandry, library, lectures, current events groups, sports, and hiking.  In addition, the village has a choir, a basketball team and a theater group

SOME DREAMS ARE FULFILLED

Kfar Idud is a fulfillment of the dream of parents and families to see their loved ones leading independent adult lives full of enriching and interesting activities.

Each resident learns to deal with individual difficulties while maintaining dignity, pride, and self confidence

This is the dream of all parents

Kfar Idud makes the dream possible

PARENTS ARE OUR PARTNERS

Kfar Idud is run by a committee elected by the assembly of parents (or family members) representing each resident. The parents (or families) are full partners with management and the professional team in decisions affecting the welfare of each resident

DEVELOPMENTAL RESOURCES

Generous donations from public funds, businesses and individuals help us meet new challenges and to fulfill our dream of a warm home for special individuals with varying needs

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE

Life at Kfar Idud is dynamic. We have many plans to develop and
dreams to bring to fruition.

Our main goal in all of our projects is to find high quality solutions to the needs of our residents.  We maintain a high quality of life in our diverse community while protecting each resident at every stage in his/her life
